Missing In Action

Hi friends!  I'm sorry I've been MIA for a while.  So much to tell.  Yet I don't write.

Last year around this time I was busy sharing on this blog often.  I was moving forward like a locomotive trying to find ways to improve and take charge of my health.  I learned so much!!  I'm still implementing many of the things I learned.  Still making many of the non-toxic household recipes I found or created.  Even selling my homemade hand and body cream (lotion).  Still making smoothies but, I have to admit, not as often.  I still limit wheat and dairy and try to eat "real food", not much processed stuff.

We're enjoying the bounty from last summer's garden even now in January.  Praise the LORD for all those yummy veggies to store, can and freeze!

All of that being said, around Christmas time I kind of fell off the healthy living band wagon.  I got lazy through all the busyness of the holidays.  I comprised what I ate.  I didn't get enough exercise.  I paid for it, and still am in some ways.  It's amazing how quickly a person can get off track!!  Then how hard it is to get back on.  It would be better to stay on the track, but...sigh.

As the New Year dawned I started slowly inching my way back to a healthy lifestyle.

In the midst of a very harsh winter in Iowa (and throughout the Midwest), it's not easy to get motivated.  However, there's time to think it over.  Ha.  That's what winter is good for; time to slow down, reflect and put into action those thought out plans.  :)

There are some new things that I've discovered lately.  I want to write about two of them.  Two things I'm wondering if my friends out there have considered for better health.

1. Acupuncture.  I started seeing an acupuncturist just a few weeks ago.  I'm pleased to report that I am seeing some results that years of medical, chiropractic and alternative care have never produced.    I believe it's just another piece of the puzzle.  It's exciting!  I hope to write more about this later.

2. Essential Oils. I've used essential oils for some time now.  I've used different brands of single oils.  However, I went to an interesting class last weekend on the benefits of essential oils.  Not just any oils but a brand called Young Living that is (apparently) the only therapeutic grade essential oil producer.  I learned that most essential oils are filled with synthetic fillers, rendering them less effective.  Anyway, they did a hand scan which showed which oils my body needs.  Not sure how it knows, but the report made sense (considering my health issues).  Because the report made sense to me and a friend of mine has found some results using these , I ordered one of the blends they recommended.  I also ordered a toothpaste that can also be used as deodorant.  Yep, that definitely sounds wacko! :)  But I'm eager to get started.  Hey, it's worth a try!

This life is a journey.  Overall health is something to be pursued on this journey.  We need to be good stewards of what God has given us.  Our bodies are His temples.  Makes me think.  How about you?

What things are you doing now to improve/maintain your health?  What could you be doing that you are not?  It's time to get on the healthy living train...again!

Until next time, take a healthy step today...just one or two.  And do the same tomorrow.  I will too. :)

  1. One of the things I've been looking more into is real butter, and foods with high fat contents are actually better for us than the substitutes that people have come up with. There are many studies that show this yet our country continues to say it's bad to eat eggs, real butter, etc. ~ Alicia

  2. I hear ya on getting off the healthy living track around Christmas time!!! I'm there too... slowly starting to get back into my normal, healthy routine. And I've been reading more about the benefits of soaked/fermented foods (above and beyond yogurt) and am excited to delve into this new adventure this year!
Would love to hear more about what you learned from the essential oil class sometime! Definitely an area of health that I know has benefits, but I've been too negligent to learn more about. Thanks for posting!

  3. Oh I love essential oils. We have had many experienced of amazing healings using them...and they smell so good too!

Thanks for commenting. I enjoy hearing from you!
